Conscience - Part One
Do we serve God with a pure conscience?
Apostle Paul said, “I thank God, whom I serve with a pure conscience…” (2 Timothy 1:3a, NKJV) He told Pastor Timothy that deacons must hold “the mystery of the faith with a pure conscience.” (1 Timothy 3:9, NKJV)
What does Paul mean by “holding the mystery of the faith with a pure conscience” and to serve “God with a pure conscience”? Now, this topic is very sensitive and deep. It has many aspects, some of which could lead to condemnation which does not help anyone grow. An evil conscience is a condemning conscience. A good conscience is a repenting (receiving the mind of Christ) conscience.
Let’s start with, “Whatever is not of faith is sin.” A good conscience is the result of “walking by faith”, doing the good that we know to do. In our personal relationship with God, we are led by, taught by, corrected by, and comforted by Holy Spirit. A good conscience responds to Holy Spirit in a positive way. An evil conscience runs and hides from The LORD when He comes looking for us in our garden (like Adam did).
Therefore, first and foremost today, let us listen, believe, follow and respond to Holy Spirit as we remain in a pure conscience.
