Conscience - Part Four
There is a push and pull in faith. This is why Apostle Paul says to “fight the good fight of faith”, and in another place he said, “submit to God and resist the devil.”
“For your obedience has become known to all. Therefore I am glad on your behalf; but I want you to be wise in what is good, and simple concerning evil.” (Romans 16:19, NKJV)
One translation says, “Be excellent at what is good, be innocent of evil.” This admonition is simple. Keep a pure conscience. Walk by faith and not by sight. A good conscience draws near to God and has confidence with God. An evil conscience pulls away from God and loses confidence with God.
Apostle John said this, “Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence toward God. And whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do those things that are pleasing in His sight.” (1 John 3:21–22, NKJV)
When we keep our conscience pure by speaking and doing like Jesus and His word demonstrates, our side of the relationship is pure and our confidence and faith are at their strongest.
God is always confident in His faith, hope and love toward us because His ways are perfect; so God is faithful even when we aren’t. He is faithful to Himself, His love and His word. We do not have to worry that God will lose faith or confidence. His part of the covenant or contract is not our main concern. Our part is. And He graciously empowers us in our part through His Holy Spirit and His Word.
