We have both Old Testament and New Testament examples of living by faith, but the greatest example of living by faith is Christ Jesus Himself. He is the greatest example because He lived it from start to finish and is now glorified.
“Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” (Hebrews 12:1–2, NKJV)
The faith of Christ Jesus took Him to the cross and the grave but did not leave Him there. He rose from the grave victorious over the devil, death, hell and the grave. We saw His confession of faith, His walk of faith, His teaching of faith, His persecution for His faith, His response to persecution, His crucifixion and burial, His resurrection, and His return after His ascension to The Father. Then we saw His disciples and how they lived and died because of their faith.
The simple difference between faith in The Old Testament and faith in The New Testament is the perspective of the death, burial and resurrection of Christ Jesus. Jesus said, “Abraham rejoiced to see my day.” This means that Abraham saw it before it manifested. Abraham knew God as the one who calls things that be not as though they were. Abraham believed God and it was accounted to him as righteousness. Look at the life of Christ Jesus and believe. And because of faith, lay aside distraction and sin, run your race with patient endurance, and consider it joy when you face a struggle. We can believe God and His Word. We can overcome our present situation.
