When studying The Bible, start with simple foundational truths and build upon them. Sometimes the foundations are not as plainly identified once a structure is built upon it. However, a good foundation never moves or cracks. A strong foundation can weather many things. Ive seen structures destroyed while foundations remain. Let’s read part of yesterday’s passage again. “looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” (Hebrews 12:2, NKJV)
Simply stated in context, this verse tells us to follow the example of Christ Jesus. His faith is pretext and context for our faith. What Christ Jesus said and did should be studied and followed. (That is what makes us His disciples.) He is the author and finisher of our faith because He is the “case study” on faith. We are given the same faith that He was given. He taught and demonstrated how it should be used. Dive in to this verse: “looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”
What ver we are going through, we can endure because of the joy that is set before us. What is set the joy set before us? Christ in us the hope of glory. Not only are we one with Christ Jesus in glory now, we shall be united with Him in glory after we endure. “For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.” (2 Corinthians 4:17–18, NKJV)
