“For your obedience has become known to all. Therefore I am glad on your behalf; but I want you to be wise in what is good, and simple concerning evil. And the God of peace will crush Satan under your feet shortly. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.” (Romans 16:19–20, NKJV)
See what these believers are doing and how Apostle Paul tells them to live and receive victory. Paul commends them for being obedient. Then he admonishes them to be wise in what is good and simple or innocent concerning evil. Other versions say be excellent at what is good. Paul links obedience and goodness to victory over the devil. “Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” (Romans 12:21, NKJV) “But solid food belongs to those who are of full age, that is, those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.” (Hebrews 5:14, NKJV)
Discerning evil is not different from being simple/innocent concerning evil. A person who knows what is true can easily detect a counterfeit. We overcome evil with good. We practice good so much that evil has no place in our walk and talk. This is a sign of maturity.
“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.” (Ephesians 2:10, NKJV) Choose good over evil. Practice doing good. “Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.” (James 4:7, NKJV)
