A testimony is a witness with a story about a personal experience or encounter. When we read the testimonies of the apostles, we are reading an account from eye witnesses. Two of the gospels were written by men who personally interviewed the disciples of Christ Jesus.
What is important about these testimonies? Are they consistent with each other? Are they historically accurate and reliable? Are there enough corroborating historical documents to show that they are credible? The answer to the last three questions is “Yes”.
The answer to the question of importance for today’s devotion is that they all speak of God’s desire to enter into a personal dialogue and relationship with every individual who approaches.
God is not hiding. There is one who blinds or deceives but God reveals Himself to us. There was once a veil separating the individual from that face to face presence. But that veil protected humanity. Because of the work of Christ Jesus, the veil is removed. Why doesn’t humanity need to be protected anymore from the Holiness of God? Because Christ Jesus became the thing that made it dangerous for us to approach the face of God. He died on the cross as that thing. Justice has been served in the heavens against sin. We are now accepted because of the blood of Christ - our atonement.
The veil is torn in two. We are invited to boldly and confidently put on Christ and come into God’s throne room and enjoy His presence face to face. The kind of fear humanity had toward God before Christ Jesus is replaced by God’s perfect love and acceptance. “There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.” (1 John 4:18, NKJV)
