God’s word transfers authority and permission to those who put their faith in Christ Jesus. Our authority and permission starts with our own lives. We each have been given authority over ourself. “But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name:” (John 1:12, NKJV) The “right” to become sons of God is authority. Those who put their faith in Christ Jesus are authorized to become sons of God like Jesus. We are allowed to let Christ be formed in us. We have permission to speak and act as Christ in the earth. This is why we are called Christians.
We are the body of Christ and members individually. We have received the mind of Christ. We have received the Spirit of God. We have received the spirit of holiness. We have been given all things that pertain to life and holiness. We have been made partakers of His divine nature. We have authority and permission to speak and act in His name.
Once a person has received authority, they have to practice using it. Practice using authority is using authority. We start using the authority over our own flesh. “Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” (Hebrews 12:1–2, NKJV)
We also have been given authority over the devil and darkness. “Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.” (Luke 10:19, NKJV)
The disciples received this authority while Jesus was with them. But they carried the authority with them when Jesus sent them out to preach. This is before the death and resurrection of Christ and before the outpouring of The Holy Spirit.
Having received Holy Spirit to dwell with us and in us, we are never alone and we are never without this authority. Be faithful concerning the little things and Our Father will make you ruler over bigger things. Start with simple and quick obedience to the word and the leading of the spirit. For a person who is not under authority does not walk in authority.
