How could believers make the argument that what we say has nothing to do with our own success or failure? The Bible is clear that the words we say are not just important, but they are life changing and life directing. Life and death are in the power of the tongue. We will give account for every idle word.
“This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”” (Joshua 1:8–9, NKJV)
“Blessed is the man Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful; But his delight is in the law of the Lord, And in His law he meditates day and night. He shall be like a tree Planted by the rivers of water, That brings forth its fruit in its season, Whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever he does shall prosper. The ungodly are not so, But are like the chaff which the wind drives away. Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, Nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous. For the Lord knows the way of the righteous, But the way of the ungodly shall perish.” (Psalm 1:1–6, NKJV)
The Scriptures tell us we should keep the word of God I our mouth and meditate on it day and night. Meditate means to mutter. When we keep God’s word in our mouth, we become a fruitful tree planted by the water. We make our way prosperous and successful by continuously saying what God says. Many want God to make their way prosperous and successful, but God told us how to make our own way prosperous and successful. “Be doers of the word and not hearers only.” Keeping the Word of God in our mouth and meditating in the word day and night enables us to observe and do it. We are told to be transformed by the renewing of our minds. This is how. Keep the word of God in your mouth. God writes His words on your heart. Your spirit is the candle of the LORD searching your inward parts. You are a spirit-being with a soul living in a body. The words of Jesus are spirit and life. As the spirit being possessing your soul and ruling your body, only allow your mouth to speak words that are spirit and life. Your soul will be renewed. Your body will be obedient. You will observe and do all of Jesus’s word. You will make your own way prosperous and successful.
