Nehemiah was called of God. He was moved in his heart about Jerusalem being destroyed. He then spoke to King Aataxerxes about what God put on his heart. God gave Nehemiah favor with the king. Then Nehemiah was given permission to go to Jerusalem and rebuild. The first thing he did was to inspect the state of the walls and gathered the men who lived there together and, “Then I said to them, “You see the distress that we are in, how Jerusalem lies waste, and its gates are burned with fire. Come and let us build the wall of Jerusalem, that we may no longer be a reproach.” And I told them of the hand of my God which had been good upon me, and also of the king’s words that he had spoken to me. So they said, “Let us rise up and build.” Then they set their hands to this good work.” (Nehemiah 2:17–18, NKJV)
When God wants to accomplish something, He gives someone a spiritual “nudge”. We used to say, He gives them a burden. Basically, they see something wrong and want to fix it.
The person will then decide whether or not to step out in faith to fix it. When they do step out, God meets them where their faith takes them. Favor starts showing up in their life for the task but so does opposition.
They start sharing the vision and the provision of Good for the dream and others begin to partner to do the work. These are, many times, people who saw the problem but didn’t know how to address it. So when someone shows up with a vision, they are ready to get to work. But there are those who have had a blind eye and only see when others start saying and doing something about it. Then they decide to either support, oppose or remain indifferent.
You don’t have to be the leader that God chooses but You can support the vision with your work or finance. The one who leads can’t do it without you.
