Part Eight - God’s words in our mouths
Your mouth impacts the way you live your life. Your mouth affects your outcomes. Your mouth influences your thought and actions.
“Finally, all of you be of one mind, having compassion for one another; love as brothers, be tenderhearted, be courteous; not returning evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary blessing, knowing that you were called to this, that you may inherit a blessing. For “He who would love life And see good days, Let him refrain his tongue from evil, And his lips from speaking deceit. Let him turn away from evil and do good; Let him seek peace and pursue it. For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, And His ears are open to their prayers; But the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.”” (1 Peter 3:8–12, NKJV)
Every believer is told to be compassionate. We show compassion through brotherly love, tender heartedness, being courteous, and blessing those who revile us. This is what we are called to do and it brings us into the blessing of our inheritance. To prove that this is our calling, Paul quotes an Old Testament passage, “Who is the man who desires life, And loves many days, that he may see good? Keep your tongue from evil, And your lips from speaking deceit. Depart from evil and do good; Seek peace and pursue it.” (Psalm 34:12–14, NKJV)
If we want to see our spiritual inheritance manifest in this life on earth, we must align our tongue with God’s words, keep our tongue from speaking evil, and our lips form speaking deceit. God’s words are good. God’s words are “spirit and life”. God’s words are words of faith, hope and love. God’s words empower us to do them. But in order for God’s words to empower us to do them, they must be in our hearts and in our mouths. This is the word of faith which we preach.
