Christ Jesus Disciplines Those He Loves - Part One
“As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten. Therefore be zealous and repent. Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me. To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne. “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.” (Revelation 3:19–22, NKJV)
The Lord Jesus rebukes and disciplines the ones that he loves. This passage is written to the churches. There is one church and there are many churches. Christ Jesus stands at the door of the believer’s heart knocking, wanting to come in and bring correction so that we might be more successful. He wants us to overcome and walk in victory so that we might share that victory with each other.
A baseball coach chastens his players so that they will increase their batting average an on-base percentage. He disciplines his players so that they can play for nine innings without wearing out. He corrects them so that they can give their best for the whole game. He makes them practice hard so they can play hard. He does it all so they can have a chance to win.
When Christ Jesus disciplines and corrects us, be quick to repent, be zealous to make the change quickly. This will increase your fellowship and intimacy with The LORD Jesus. It will also increase your success rate. Your “batting average” and on-base percentage” will go up.
