The Jealous God
The Scripture describes God as jealous nine times. It even gives God the name, El Qanna, God the Jealous.
What draws the jealousy of God?
- God is jealous of His Name. Do not take His Name in vain or lightly. Count the cost and serve only GOD. (Ex.20:5)
- God is jealous concerning worship. Worship Him alone in spirit and truth. Give no worship to another god. (Ex.34:14)
- God is jealous concerning His covenant. Do not forget it and make covenant with other gods. (De.4:24)
- God is jealous concerning His covenant people. Do not covenant with those who are not covenanted to GOD. (De.6:14-15)
- God is jealous concerning faithfulness. Do not be double minded in following Christ Jesus. (Jos.24:19)
- God is jealous concerning His Name. He will keep His promises. (Ez.39:25)
- God is jealous concerning His people. He will avenge His adversaries. (Na.1:2)
- The Spirit of God in us yearns jealously. God gives grace to the humble and resists the proud. (Ja.4:5)
Because God is Jealous, He is a consuming fire. He will use the works of the flesh as fuel for His Fire in us. He will not allow anything to sit ahead of Himself in our lives. Christ Jesus is King of kings and Lord of lords. He sits on the king’s throne till all of His enemies are mad His footstool. He will burn up His enemies.
“Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us have grace, by which we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear. For our God is a consuming fire.” (Hebrews 12:28–29, NKJV)
