When do spiritual sounding words become merely false religion? When they do not align with Scripture.

If someone should tell you that asking God for something is selfish…

Should someone talk about how beautiful it is to worship without asking God for anything…

Take a look at what The Scripture tells us over and over again.

Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice! Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand. Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:4–7, NKJV)

And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.” (John 14:13–14, NKJV)

If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples.” (John 15:7–8, NKJV)

Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus, who gave Himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time,” (1 Timothy 2:1–6, NKJV)

For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us. Now He who establishes us with you in Christ and has anointed us is God, who also has sealed us and given us the Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee.” (2 Corinthians 1:20–22, NKJV)

It honors God to ask God for everything that He has promised us. “Abba” means “source”. Recognizing God as our source honors God. Asking God for what you need and desire honors God as our source. Asking with thanksgiving recognizes God’s intentions towards us. His thoughts towards us are good. God’s intentions towards us are blessing and favor. God takes pleasure in prospering His sons and daughters. Do you believe that God’s promises are already “Yes” and “Amen”?
