Anointing Part 2 - Cont. from Mar. 31, 2025

Jesus is The Anointed aka The Christ. Christ means anointed and anointing. Anointing means covered with oil and set apart for priesthood or kingship. Authority with God and authority with men. One aspect means that Jesus is the High Priest of our confession. Another aspect means that Jesus is King of kings and Chief Apostle.

“The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me, Because the Lord has anointed Me To preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives, And the opening of the prison to those who are bound; To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, And the day of vengeance of our God; To comfort all who mourn, To console those who mourn in Zion, To give them beauty for ashes, The oil of joy for mourning, The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; That they may be called trees of righteousness, The planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified.” (Isaiah 61:1–3, NKJV)

“The Spirit of The LORD is upon me”. This is the baptism of The Holy Spirit. It is a covering of the anointing.

When all the people were baptized, it came to pass that Jesus also was baptized; and while He prayed, the heaven was opened. And the Holy Spirit descended in bodily form like a dove upon Him, and a voice came from heaven which said, “You are My beloved Son; in You I am well pleased.” (Luke 3:21–22, NKJV)

The Holy Spirit descended upon Him. Jesus already had The Spirit of God in Him. He was born of a virgin and His spirit is one with Holy Spirit already. He did not need to be born again as we do. He was already a life-giving spirit prior to the anointing of Holy Spirit coming upon Him. The anointing comes upon you for a purpose. It helps you fulfill the very thing that you were sent to earth to do.

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives And recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed; To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.” Then He closed the book, and gave it back to the attendant and sat down. And the eyes of all who were in the synagogue were fixed on Him. And He began to say to them, “Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.” (Luke 4:18–21, NKJV)
