“Go and Wash”
Please Read John 9:6–12 (NKJV)
Reflection
After declaring that the man’s blindness was not the result of sin but an opportunity for the works of God to be revealed, Jesus did something unusual.
He spat on the ground, made clay with the saliva, anointed the blind man’s eyes with the mud, and then gave him a simple but strange command:
“Go, wash in the pool of Siloam” (which is translated, Sent).
The man born blind did not argue. He did not ask for an explanation. He did not say, “That doesn’t make sense.” He simply obeyed. He went, he washed, and he came back seeing.
This is a powerful picture of how healing and breakthrough often come. Jesus’ methods are rarely what we expect. Sometimes He speaks a word. Sometimes He touches. Sometimes, as in this case, He gives a command that seems odd or even unnecessary. The mud did not contain healing power in itself. The Pool of Siloam was not a magic spring. The power was in the word of Jesus and the man’s obedient response to it.
In the Kingdom life, many of God’s promises require obedient action. Faith is not passive. It often involves doing what Jesus says even when it feels strange, inconvenient, or illogical. The blind man’s healing was not automatic — it required his response. He had to get up, walk to the pool, and wash.
Obedience to Jesus’ word is the pathway to seeing the works of God revealed in our lives. When we hear His command and act on it, we position ourselves for breakthrough.
Application
Today, ask the Holy Spirit if there is any area in your life where Jesus has given you a clear instruction that you have not yet obeyed. It may seem small or strange, but simple obedience opens the door for God’s power to work. Renew your mind with this truth: Healing and breakthrough often come through obedient action in response to Jesus’ word. Identify one specific step of obedience the Lord is calling you to take today — whether it is forgiving someone, confessing something, stepping out in faith, or simply doing what you already know He has told you. Do it promptly and expectantly. As you obey, watch for the works of God to be revealed in you.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You that Jesus still gives commands that lead to healing and freedom. Thank You for the example of the man born blind who simply obeyed and received his sight. Forgive us for the times we have argued with Your instructions or delayed our obedience. Renew our minds today to understand that simple obedience to Your word positions us for Your power. Give us willing and quick hearts to do whatever You tell us, even when it seems unusual. May the works of God be revealed in our lives as we walk in obedience. In Jesus’ name, giving thanks for the living Word of the Lord. Amen.
