Jesus is The Apostle and High Priest of our confession

“Therefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our confession, Christ Jesus,” Hebrews 3:1

Let’s start with the fact that Jesus is The Apostle of our Confession. “For He whom God has sent speaks the words of God, for God does not give the Spirit by measure.” (John 3:34, NKJV) Jesus was sent to us from Our Father to declare the words of The Father to us.

Next, He is the High Priest of our Confession. He is the intermediary between us and Our Father, and the words that He uses are the examples of how to interact with Our Father. John 17 is an example of how Christ Jesus prays. The Lord’s Prayer in Matthew 6 and Luke 11 also teaches us how to pray to the Father.

The use of the word confession in this verse is not speaking about going into a confessional with a priest. It is talking about how we speak and how we pray. There is a right way to pray.

But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.” James 1:6–8

How can we ask in faith? We pray in faith when we are using the words of our Apostle and High Priest. When we speak and pray in agreement with Christ Jesus, we are in alignment with The Father’s will and we can know that He hears us and we can have confidence that we will receive the request that we have made of Him.

Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.” 1 John 5:14–15
