“He Who Has Seen Me Has Seen the Father”

Please Read John 14:7–11 (NKJV)

Reflection

Philip voiced the longing of every disciple’s heart when he said:

“Lord, show us the Father, and it is sufficient for us.”

Jesus’ answer is one of the most stunning revelations in the entire Gospel:

“Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; so how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?”

Jesus did not point Philip to a future vision or a hidden God. He declared that to truly see and know Him is to see and know the Father. There is perfect oneness between them. Jesus said:

“The words that I speak to you I do not speak on My own authority; but the Father who dwells in Me does the works. Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father in Me, or else believe Me for the sake of the works themselves.”

Every word Jesus spoke and every miracle He performed was the Father working through Him. Jesus lived in perfect union with the Father. He was the exact representation of God’s heart, character, and will.

In the Kingdom life, this truth is life-changing. We do not have to wonder what the Father is like. We look at Jesus — His compassion, His holiness, His authority, His forgiveness, His humility, and His love — and we see the Father clearly.

Application

Today, take time to reflect: How do you picture God the Father? Do you sometimes see Him as distant, stern, or hard to please? Renew your mind with this powerful truth: He who has seen Jesus has seen the Father.

Look again at the life of Jesus in the Gospels. The way He loved the broken, forgave sinners, healed the sick, and laid down His life — that is the heart of the Father toward you. Ask the Holy Spirit to open your eyes to see the Father more clearly through the Son. Let your relationship with Jesus become the doorway into deeper intimacy with the Father.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You that in Jesus we see exactly who You are. Thank You that He who has seen the Son has seen the Father. Forgive us for the times we have viewed You as distant or unknowable. Renew our minds today to behold the Father through the life and words of Jesus. Help us to believe that Jesus is in You and You are in Him. Draw us into deeper fellowship with both You and Your Son. May we know You more intimately as we walk with Jesus. In His name, giving thanks for the living Word of the Lord. Amen.
