“Rest in the Lord and Wait Patiently for Him”
Please Read Psalm 37:7–11 (NKJV)
Reflection
“Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him; do not fret because of him who prospers in his way, because of the man who brings wicked schemes to pass. Cease from anger, and forsake wrath; do not fret—it only causes harm. For evildoers shall be cut off; but those who wait on the Lord, they shall inherit the earth. For yet a little while and the wicked shall be no more; indeed, you will look carefully for his place, but it shall be no more. But the meek shall inherit the earth, and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.”
David wrote these words while watching the wicked prosper and scheme. The temptation to fret, grow angry, and take matters into our own hands is very real. Yet the Holy Spirit gives us a better way: Rest. Wait patiently. Cease from anger. Forsake wrath. Do not fret.
Why? Because God has already spoken the final word over the wicked: “Evildoers shall be cut off.” In just a little while, the wicked will be no more. You will look for their place, and it will not be found. Their schemes, their power, their temporary success—all of it has an expiration date set by God Himself.
Meanwhile, those who wait on the Lord shall inherit the earth. The meek — those who refuse to strive, manipulate, or take revenge — will not only survive; they will delight themselves in the abundance of peace. This is Kingdom reality. The wicked may appear to win for a season, but the meek who trust God will inherit what lasts forever.
In the Kingdom life, fretting and wrath never produce righteousness. They only cause harm to our own hearts. Resting in the Lord is an act of faith. Waiting patiently is not passive — it is active trust that says, “God sees. God judges righteously. God will cut off the wicked in His perfect time.” While we wait, we position ourselves to receive the inheritance promised to the meek: peace, abundance, and the earth itself.
Application
Today, identify any area where you have been fretting or growing angry because of the wicked or their schemes. Bring it honestly to the Lord. Choose to rest in Him and wait patiently. Renew your mind with these truths: “Evildoers shall be cut off… but those who wait on the Lord shall inherit the earth.” Replace fretting with worship and wrath with prayer. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you walk in meekness today. Look for one opportunity to respond with peace instead of anger. Your choice to rest and wait can become a powerful testimony to others who are also tempted to fret.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You that You are sovereign over the wicked and their schemes. Thank You that evildoers will be cut off and the meek will inherit the earth. Forgive me for the times I have fretted, grown angry, or tried to take matters into my own hands. Today I choose to rest in You and wait patiently for You. Renew my mind so I cease from anger and forsake wrath. Help me walk in meekness and delight myself in the abundance of peace You have promised. Let my life reflect trust in Your perfect timing and righteous judgment. In Jesus’ name, giving thanks for the living Word of the Lord. Amen.
