How does deception get a foothold in the life of a believer?
Song of Solomon 2:15 tells us to catch the small foxes that spoil the vines while the vines are in bloom. When we receive the word of God in our hearts and it begins to bloom, we must fight off all of those small doubts that try stop steal the word. Deception enters in when we begin to think that the world, the devil, or anyone has more wisdom than God and His Word.
The heart is deceptive when it is not trained by The Word. The heart will justify the things that we desire. This is why we must stay grounded in The Word of God and full of The Holy Spirit and walk in love.
The trouble with being deceived is that we don’t know when we are deceived. This is why we must stay in The Word of God. “Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” (John 8:31–32, NKJV)
“I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit. You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you. Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me. “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned. If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples. “As the Father loved Me, I also have loved you; abide in My love. If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love. “These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full.” (John 15:1–11, NKJV)
If we keep reading the word of God every day, keep it in our mouths and meditate in it day and night, we will observe and do it. The word of God will expose and correct our areas of deception. Make up your mind to exalt and believe the word of God, then do what The Word of God says to do and say what the word of God says to say. This will overcome all deception.
