“Likewise you younger people, submit yourselves to your elders. Yes, all of you be submissive to one another, and be clothed with humility, for “God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.” Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you. Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world. But may the God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you. To Him be the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.” (1 Peter 5:5–11, NKJV)
Resist the devil through the steadfastness of your faith.
Submit to your elders and to one another, clothed in humility because God gives grace to the humble and resists the proud. Humble yourselves and submit to God, for He will exalt you in due season. Cast your fears and anxieties on God, for He is caring for you.
Be sober and vigilant as in warfare when your enemy is just looking for an opening to attack. When there is no opening, the devil struts around and makes lots of noise trying to get your attention. If he gets quiet, he may think that he found an opening.
Our faith in Christ Jesus and in His Word is the victory that overcomes the world. Is it any surprise, then, that we are told to resist the devil with our steadfast faith?
Resist the devil, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brothers in Christ throughout the world. Would you look to whom Apostle Peter attributes the source of suffering? He tells you to resist the devil while suffering the attacks of the devil. And this resistance is a matter of our steadfast faith.
