The LORD Jesus is the fully manifest word of God. He is the Word made flesh which men shall live by. Christ Jesus is life and gives life to all who believe and receive His words.
“Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me has everlasting life. I am the bread of life. Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and are dead. This is the bread which comes down from heaven, that one may eat of it and not die. I am the living bread which came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever; and the bread that I shall give is My flesh, which I shall give for the life of the world.”” (John 6:47–51, NKJV)
“Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”” (John 8:31–32, NKJV)
“If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples. “As the Father loved Me, I also have loved you; abide in My love. If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love. “These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full.” (John 15:7–11, NKJV)
We have a couple of metaphors crafted by Jesus in these passages. The first is that His word and He are bread that we can eat. We live by eating the word of God. It is spiritual food that gives ‘zoe’ life and health to all our flesh. (Prov. 4:20-22) The second is that His word becomes a living shelter in which we can live and move and have our being. (Acts 17:28)
Application: When The Word of God becomes our daily bread, we can craft a living shelter of joy and peace (shalom) with The Words that God puts in our mouth. (Isa. 51:16).
