Part Six - Grow Strong in Spirit
The Bible says, “Be strong”, 33 times in 30 verses. The Bible is more concerned with spiritual strength than it is with physical.
“You therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. And the things that you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also. You therefore must endure hardship as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. No one engaged in warfare entangles himself with the affairs of this life, that he may please him who enlisted him as a soldier. And also if anyone competes in athletics, he is not crowned unless he competes according to the rules. The hardworking farmer must be first to partake of the crops. Consider what I say, and may the Lord give you understanding in all things.” (2 Timothy 2:1–7, NKJV)
Be strong in the grace of Christ Jesus. How do we know that this is spiritual strength? Because it empowers people who are full of faith to endure hardship. And it empowers faith-full people to live according to the rules with self-control. And as strong believers who are walking in the grace of Christ Jesus, we become hard-working farmers who reap the harvest of our hard work.
Strength of spirit is required to overcome adversity. Strength of spirit is required to work hard and partake of the fruits of our labor. In society today, you get a paycheck at the end of a week or two weeks. This is almost instant gratification. The work and reward process has been reduced to almost instant. Eight hours of work followed by eight hours of play followed by eight hours of sleep followed by a paycheck in just a few short days. Soldiers and farmers did not have this luxury. Let us change our perspective and see ourselves as farmers. Work hard with The Word of God. Read, Study, Memorize, Meditate, Say and Do it morning, noon, and night. This is how a person becomes prosperous in spirit, soul and body.
