Seeking Jesus First Nov. 12, 2024
Why did Jesus tell us to pray, “Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven”
Why must we pray that if Christ Jesus is Sovereign King and brought His kingdom when He came? Jesus came preaching, “repent for the kingdom of God is here.”
Jesus said, “But seek the kingdom of God, and all these things shall be added to you. “Do not fear, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom. Sell what you have and give alms; provide yourselves money bags which do not grow old, a treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches nor moth destroys. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” (Luke 12:31–34, NKJV)
God takes joy in giving us His kingdom. That is the good news of the gospel.
“The heaven, even the heavens, are the Lord’s; But the earth He has given to the children of men.” (Psalm 115:16, NKJV) God has already given us authority in the physical kingdom of the earth. However, God desires to give us the spiritual kingdom so that we can incorporate it here on earth. We are importing heaven’s culture to earth.
It is our job to pray the kingdom of God into the earth just like it is our job to manifest the kingdom culture in the earth. God has given us, just like Adam, a garden to work here in the earth. Will we be faithful over it and in it or will we abdicate our authority in exchange for pleasing our temporary flesh?
Don’t judge the first Adam who sinned. Receive the last Adam who gave us the abundance of grace and the gift of righteousness so that we could reign in this life through the one Christ Jesus.
