Part Five - Hold to your faith steadfast until the end.
“Beware, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief in departing from the living God; but exhort one another daily, while it is called “Today,” lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin. For we have become partakers of Christ if we hold the beginning of our confidence steadfast to the end, while it is said: “Today, if you will hear His voice, Do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion.”” (Hebrews 3:12–15, NKJV)
Unbelief is equated to an evil heart because it causes a person to depart from God. Look at what hardens a heart and leads a person into unbelief: the deceitfulness of sin. We are partakers of Christ, if we steadfastly hold to our confidence in Him. We are saved by grace through faith and we stay saved by grace through faith. Since grace never stops flowing from God, we simply must not quench it through unbelief. If you can hear God’s voice, do not harden your heart through unbelief.
Would you like another testimony?
“You therefore, beloved, since you know this beforehand, beware lest you also fall from your own steadfastness, being led away with the error of the wicked; but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and forever. Amen.” (2 Peter 3:17–18, NKJV)
We are again warned as believers to not allow ourselves to be led away from God through wickedness and unbelief. The error of the wicked is unbelief. Here is a clue as to how we can keep from falling away from our own steadfastness: GROW IN THE GRACE OF GOD.
How do we grow in the grace of God? By growing in faith and remaining steadfast in our practice of the gift of righteousness. “For if by the one man’s offense death reigned through the one, much more those who receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.)” (Romans 5:17, NKJV)
